acoustic driven hymnal

ok, so it doesn't have to be strictly acoustic, but why isn't there a good hymnal written in guitar tabs? if any of you know of one and would like to bring it to my attention, that would be great. and no, i'm not talking about the wilds book. im talking about a 700 page big daddy guitar hymnal. perhaps i should get to work on it.

there are three good reasons for this (oh yeah, look at me now. im a good baptist preacher with my three points . . . all i need is a poem.)

the first reason: a guitar is mobile. when is the last time you slung your piano or organ on your back and went to a Bible study? chiropractors would have a whole heap of job security if that were attempted. guitar can go just about anywhere. a guitar hymnal would facilitate the singing of good music in more and more venues.

the second reason: it would shake off tradition. i'm not saying that there is anything wrong with the piano (notice that the organ was not mentioned in that sentence . . . ), but there is alot of tradition that people hang on when singing hymns. perhaps a change would wake some people up to what is (or should) really be going on when you sing. it would help get our minds off of the piano parts we all have memorized and maybe just help us worship.

the third reason: i like guitar. after all, i do play this instrument. (ok so i just added this one in b/c i needed three . . . )

if you were a good preacher, they would have been alliterated.

How's about this:

the guitar is mobile
the guitar is modern
the guitar is mesmeric

or this:

the guitar is ambulatory
the guitar is avant-garde
the guitar is appealing

or this

the guitar is portable
the guitar is present-day
the guitar is preferable

if you can do that, you are a baptist preaacher...may be.

i agree with you. there needs to be a hymnal like that. i see only one problem. the majority of the people who play guitar these days are not interested in playing hymns. this is not a knock against guitar players (i are one), but a simple application of the law of supply and demand.

grace and peace,
